Floating Logos by Matt Siber

A pretty easy photohsop manipulation, but the idea is really interesting. Floating Logos by Matt Siber -
The Project Statement : Inspired by the proliferation of very tall signs in the American Mid-West, Floating Logos seeks to draw attention to this often overlooked form of advertising. Perched atop very tall poles or stanchions, these corporate beacons emit their message by looming over us in their glowing, plastic perfection. Elimination of the support structure in the photographs allows the signs to literally float above the earth. In some cases the ground is purposefully left out of the image to further emphasize the disconnect between the corporate symbols and terra firma.

Making the signs appear to float not only draws attention to this type of signage but also gives them, and the companies that put them there, an otherworldly quality. References can be drawn to religious iconography, the supernatural, popular notions of extraterrestrials, or science fiction films such as Blade Runner. Each of these references refers to something that can profoundly affect our lives yet is just beyond our control and comprehension.

LORICK FALL 09 AFTER PARTY

Posted: 25 Feb 2009 10:08 AM PST

Fashion week got off to a perfect start thanks to the good people at A5E Productions, who organized the Lorick Fall 09 Afterparty on Friday the 13th.  The party was held at 237 Lafayette, the cavernous space for INVEN.TORY’s second store (opening March 1st!).  Guests walked through the unassuming doors- wallpapered with a Converse by John Varvatos ad campaign until the unveiling of INVEN.TORY’s finished store- and into a dark and dusty warehouse.  Fellini films were projected onto the vastly high walls, flickering soft light throughout the dimly lit room and illuminating the way to the party downstairs. The lower level’s  soft and buttery lighting set the mood for the well dressed guests.  Models stood, statuesque, showcasing Abigail Lorick’s tailored and dainty frocks.  The makeshift bar served rosy pink Chopin cocktails, and bottles of 1947 Beer sat chilled in a black painted bathtub full of ice.  DJ Errol handpicked just the right toe-tapping, feel good music that had everyone moving until the wee hours of the morning.

The iphone is definitely a beautiful object of desire, that’s why so many designer decided to create their own, with some new options : As you can see most of them have the front camera build in for video chat, few have keyboards. Its interesting to see some new cool design and its probably give a lot of idea to Apple.

House of Holland AW09

picture-3

The house of holland AW09 collection can be described as nothing but stripey! Taking last seasons “colour blocking” Holland has made this the theme of the latest collection and is constant throughout! Jumpsuits Fur and buttons are present as seen in other catwalk shows! His pastel colours are completely effective in a gradient stripe from head to toe - everything from black to green and in between!!

picture-4

Holland plays with the boundaries of geometric shapes and volume whilst keeping the colour blocking constant throughout.

Mickey Rourke : Sharp as a Needle

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 10:42 AM PST

mickey-rourke-style

I am going to be bold and call Mickey Rourke the IT man of 2009. A lot of people are happy to see Mickey back but no one is happier than Mickey and he is coming out with a bang. He knows that just because he is off the set that  does not mean the show is not on. I have not seen one picture of the man where is not dressed to the “T”. And of course all of us fashion people are wondering who his stylist is, but I can see right through that. Every man needs a stylist, someone to shop for them and get them all they need, but the bottom line is it’s Mickey’s style that brings it home. The way he carry’s himself, the glasses…He wears the clothes that would be wearing most other men.

And to settle all disputes, Mickey does have a stylist, Michael Fisher and here is what he has to say. “Mickey is a personality, and he has his own sense of style. He likes clothes, and he likes expressing himself though clothes. He does it in his acting and he does it in his day-to-day life.  He likes taking the risk, pushing the envelope and being more flashy. And no one else can wear it like Mickey wears it…A lot of the time it comes down to five minutes before he walks out the door he’s the one who says, ‘I want to wear this tie with this vest, and this scarf and this shoe.’ He kind of puts it all together. I just have to make sure all the elements are there,” said Fisher. “When I see it all together I do think he’s the only one who could pull it off.”

Mickey is the new Mr. Cool Guy, no doubt about that.
