alice-hawkins

Alice Hawkins looks like Dolly Parton and likes to hang out with gangsters, showgirls and topless models. She also happens to be one of the fashion world’s hottest photographers. Alice has been making serious waves in the Fashion industry, from the minute she walked out of the doors of Camberwell Arts College in 2002. At 28 years old she has produced a wealth of highly diverse and individual fashion and advertising work. Her work is renowned for both its use of colour as well her intimacy with her models. She made the famous Agent Provocateur sexy ads with Maggie Gyllenhaal, works closely with ID, Harpers Bazaar and Arena and shots almost all of the biggest top model on the market…

Her Photography however transcends shooting the next girl for the season, as she turns her camera on the everyday, as well as herself. As she explains: I need to meet my subjects on a normal level. I can then embrace my project and not treat it like work

For someone who tries not to treat her photography like work she has been a busy bee, working consistently for editorial and advertising clients taking her the length and breadth of Britain as well as Internationally.

Hyden Yoo

Elite Asian designers Alexander Wang, Philip Lim, and Richard Chai are going to have to move over for up-and-coming designer Hyden Yoo. He has already stirred up commotion with his must-have tailored and fitted button downs- a new favorite in the menswear world, but has gracefully moved on to full collections. Yoo’s most recent collection, Fall/Winter 2008, displayed beautiful, wearable pieces, like perfectly cut skinny jeans, and precise, classic cashmere sweaters. His Spring/Summer 09 collection adheres to his obsession with cut and fit, and showcases his self-proclaimed “Wall Street Banker meets Brooklyn hipster” aesthetic. Yoo’s newest collection for Fall/Winter 2009 was inspired by the British Industrial Revolution, with an exquisite color palette of charcoal grays, blacks, and navy. And it gets better- Hyden Yoo is the kind of designer who thinks about his customer. “With fabric, I try to pick something that has a soft, good hand-feel. But I know not everyone can pay for a pure cashmere sweater, so I’ll blend wools. I’m not a tight ass.” Coming in March is Yoo’s debut women’s line, a more feminine take on his classic but edgy menswear line, what Yoo calls “masculine sex appeal”.

Whispertown 2000: Eb and Flow

whispertown2000-1

I love this song because, like its title, it eb’s and flows oh-so-gracefully through the duration of its 3 1/2 minutes. This is a stand out track on the Whispertown 2000’s debut album, “Swim”, which consists mostly of folky ditties. Eb and Flow however, has a little something for everyone. Enjoy.

Fine Dining, Pay As You Wish…

Posted: 09 Feb 2009 10:38 AM PST

foie-gras-w-kumquat-marmalade

In the state of economy in which we are in at the moment worldwide, business’s are being forced to create incentive for customers, in order to keep their business striving. A perfect example of this is UK restaurant Little Bay, renowned for serving fresh, hearty meals at incredibly good prices in its trademark opulent surroundings. But owner Peter Ilic ia taking his concept to the next level, his Farringdon Road restaurant will not present a single food bill to diners during this entire month of February. "It's entirely up to each customer whether they give £100 or a penny. All I'm asking is they pay me what they think the food and service is worth," said Peter, who has run restaurants in London for more than 26 years.
The February menu at Little Bay Farringdon includes ingredients which wouldn't be out of place at Michelin starred establishments including foie gras, smoked salmon, caviar and fillet steak.
"It just seemed the right thing to do with everyone under the cosh and feeling pretty miserable. We have seen so many more City folk coming into the restaurant lately, looking for a better value lunch. We're well known for serving great food at very competitive prices and this is the ultimate value for money meal."

To reserve a table, customers should call 0207 278 1234. Little Bay Farringdon is located at 171 Farringdon Road, EC1R 3AL.
There are four Little Bay restaurants throughout London: Belsize Road, Kilburn NW6; York Road, Battersea SW11; Selsdon Road, Croydon, CR2; and Farringdon Road EC1.

Grammy Fashion Worth Mentioning

Posted: 09 Feb 2009 09:52 AM PST

grammys-recap

Im glad I was watching the Grammy’s privately this year and not present at the ceremony. The liberty to walk away or tune them out was definitely a luxury this time around. Of course there were some key moments including Radiohead’s first live U.S. television performance since 2000 in which they were accompanied by the USC Marching Band, Coldplay’s performance of Viva La Vida- Best Song of the Year, Jamie Foxx, Ne-Yo, Smokey Robinson and Duke Fakir performing a tribute to The Four Tops, and JT and Al Green, who jumped in at the last minute for no show Rhiana.

coldplay-athe-grammys

And  now on the fashion tip, here are a few things I felt needed a mention; whether you loved or hated Coldplay’s outfits or more specifically their embellished military jackets I am certian you noticed them. We have seen Chris Marin sport similar jackets before but it made a serious impact to see them all rocking the style. It was news to me that the jackets were handmade by Coldplay bassist and so-called "quiet man, Guy Berryman - fourth richest man under the age of 30 in the UK, with an estimated wealth of £25 million (According to an article released by MSN UK in April 2008).

Estelle’s dress in which she presented and performed was by far the most interesting dress of the night for me. I am still looking into who the designer is and will fill in this major detail shortly. Kanye looked great beside her with his sequinced jacket and glove, but the MJ reference with the hair the the whole ‘fit was far to present for my praise.

mia-style-at-the-grammsy-2009

M.I.A. was a huge topic last night, no pun intended (lol!). She informed the public that yesterday was her due date, but that didn’t hinder her appearance, so come on Rhi Rhi! First it was the red carpet dress that barely fit in the frame of the photos. There is word that the Indian inspired printed dress is a piece from her new collection, if so God help her. But I have to say that I really enjoyed her Loony Tunes mesh dress which she came out on stage with for her performance with Kanye, T.I., Lil’ Wayne, and Jay Z. Very M.I.A.!

katy-perry-at-the-grammys

And lastly a short remark about Katie Perry’s Carmen Miranda inspired costume… The dress was so rad but she killed it! Wearing little metallic flats was not the answer. Rather than looking like a sexy bombshell she looked like a little confused child. Worst performance of the night, hands down.
