The Reconstruction of Illusions

In the artists Studio, Gabi Trinkaus is surrounded by thousands of paper snippets out of fashion magazines. Trinkaus has called herself a “medium thief”, cutting up high brightness magazines into small parts, using the pictures of our desires from magazines to create her portraits and city landscapes that make references to the aesthetics of advertising and the media that surrounds us in or everyday lives. From far her images look different than when you get close and see how the collage breaks at points to meet her pencil lines, creating an obstruction of the depth,  exposing a dismantling of our perceptions of reality.

London based Artist John-Paul Thurlow is an attempting to create cover art for every great magazine he own (+ a few he wish he owned). It’s never a straight crib, the source magazines are a jumping-off point for my imagination… A pretty cool concept and some pretty amazing drawing skills !

Forget Size Zero…

…Enter the new shape and size which dazed and confused has adopted for their latest creative shoot! The model is Carmen Knights a professional body builder/ figure competitor/ fitness model - whatever you wanna call it!

Carmen (including biceps, triceps abs and glutes) is a large step away from your average delicate model. The main one being the circumference of her upper arm would appear to be comparable to a traditional model’s waist.  But it gives the shoot a powerful feel, the dainty outfits contrasts with the rock hard bod…could that be any more eye catching? It’s got my attention.

The Vader Project - a re-imagining of the iconic Darth Vader helmet by some of today's hottest underground and pop surrealist painters, artists and designers Since it’s conception in 2007, the Vader Project has been displayed at various Star Wars conventions around the world, but the exhibit at the Warhol marks it’s first appearance in a museum setting. It is now in Pittsburgh until May 3rd but if you can’t make it in time, hopefully the project will come to you sometime in the not-too-distant future.
