Born in Nigeria, Nneka relocated some 10,000 miles to Hamburg, Germany, at the age of nineteen to pursue a career in singing along side a degree in Anthropology. Having landed in the German port, the singer hooked up with DJ and Hip-Hop beatmaker DJ Farhot and ever since, their strong musical relationship has been the backbone of Nneka's success. Her influences reflect her younger days in Nigeria as well as her time in the Western world.

Nneka's album "Victim Of Truth" was released in September 2006 to rave reviews from the music press. The songs on the album provide a range of sounds from deep soulful ballads like 'Confession' to funky Hip-Hop tracks like 'Stand Strong' to 'Changes', which is a modern reinvention of the 90s UK soul sound.

Opening Ceremony SS09 Collection

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 01:44 AM CST

It is pretty much any contemporary designers dream to have the resource of Opening Ceremony’s stores back stock and current collections as an evolving archive when inspiring for new collections. Being as smart buyers as they are they see and scout all of the newest fashions and are able to deliver beyond par. Many of these fresh pieces are pretty much vintage reenactments, however they are so period appropriate that they seem absolutely original.

Inspiration URL: SquareAmerica.com

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 01:12 AM CST

The creator of SquareAmerica.com trawls flea markets and garage sales seeking out vintage-photo treasure. Scanning and categorizing grainy snapshots of American history (taken by mostly amateur photogs) the site is a curious journey of the 20th century.

Some cool categories:

What Was On - Apparently before DVR or VCR’s people would document historic TV with a camera lens. It seems almost ridiculous nowadays to be snapping the TV screen but these homemade screenshots of 1950’s news including the assassination of John F. Kennedy and moon landing are pretty cool.

African American Photos & Snapshots

The Party - A late 60s/early 70s bacchanal.

IBM Slides - IBM’s 1975 vision of the future ironically complete with sexist undertones and indecipherable diagrams…

Great style/design inspiration to geek out on this site! And it seems to be updated regularly… even boasting a Facebook profile.

Chanel Mobile Art installation

Chanel Mobile Art installation

In 1955 Madame Coco Chanel launched the iconic, quilted ‘it’ bag 2.55. Now, fifty-three years later, Chanel have decided to make the bag the center of attention once again, namely the center of a traveling exhibition entitled Chanel Mobile Art. Twenty international contemporary artists have reinterpreted the classic Chanel hand bag and designed everything from a gold quilted guitar-shaped shoulder bag to a giant 2.55 lying thrown on the floor. The exhibition opened in Hong Kong in a futuristic, curved glass pavillion designed by Zaha Hadid, which was the first stop of a two-year world tour, where the artists have smoothened the fine lines between fashion design and art. “We don’t need art, but we cannot live without it,” said Karl Lagerfeld at the opening of Chanel’s Mobile Art pavilion in New York City’s Central Park. The exhibition will move on to cities like London, Moscow and Paris.

Paper Magazine 2nd Annual 24 Hour Pop-up Store : Los Angeles

Posted: 09 Nov 2008 01:48 PM CST

Friday early afternoon started the 2nd annual Paper Magazine Pop-Up Store. It was located on Sunset Blvd just across the Hustler store and was packed with people inside and outside in line. I withheld long enough to make one full turn, take a quick look at everything and shoot some style. The unbearable smell of damp Hipsters and chaos had us out before we knew it.
